2013 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab 4x4 Long-term Update 1
5 Months and 10,322 Miles
Staffers are enjoying the Ram’s dual nature. On the one hand, ride quality is excellent, and the team has raved about the pairing of the TorqueFlite 8 transmission with the 5.7-liter V-8. These features make the Ram a comfortable daily driver as well as easy to live with on the weekend.
Yet having one of the nicest rides of any 1/2-ton pickup doesn’t take away (too much) from its work abilities. So far, the Ram has been tasked with jobs that focus on moving heavy gear. One involved getting a very heavy tube television from its upstairs location to a donation center. Using a truck to take care of errands on the weekend isn’t always about testing the maximum capacity -- sometimes what’s best about having a truck around is knowing that it can do what you (and, inevitably, your friends) need it to do. And this wasn’t a job you could do with a Mustang.
We strapped the television to an appliance dolly and brought it down to the truck, which had already been set in the lower suspension setting. While designed to facilitate access into the truck, this setting also lowers liftover height, which made it easier to get the TV into the truck bed. Then we used the truck’s Wi-Fi to confirm the address of the donation center and the nav to help us find the place, and the task was done.
