Fontana, CA (Sports Network) - Ron Hornaday Jr. will start from the pole for
Saturday afternoon's San Bernadino County 200 Craftsman Truck Series race at
the newly named Auto Club Speedway at Southern California (formerly California
Speedway). The No.33 Kevin Harvick Inc. Chevrolet gets the pole after rain
cancelled all track activities for the day.
By virtue of the 2008 NASCAR rulebook, the starting grid was set based on 2007
owner points.
Mike Skinner will start alongside Hornaday Jr.
Johnny Benson and Todd Bodine are in row two.
In the season opener, 2006 series champion Bodine held off Kyle Busch for
the victory. But a 25-point penalty assessed in the middle of the week leaves
Bodine tied with Kyle Busch and Benson for the championship lead.
Skinner is the defending champion in the San Bernadino County 200. It was the
first of three consecutive wins in 2007 that propelled him to a big early
season lead which he eventually lost to Hornaday Jr.
"I am definitely looking forward to California," said Skinner. "Last year was
a great year for the fans to watch it come down to the end, but I think this
year should be even better."
The race is set to drop the green flag on Saturday at 3 p.m. (et).
