Castroneves wins pole in Ohio

Lexington, OH (Sports Network) - Helio Castroneves captured the pole for Sunday's Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course . The No.3 Team Penske driver rounded the 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course in one minute, 07.2480 seconds (120.878 m.p.h.).

The pole victory was Castroneves' second of the season and 25th of his IndyCar career. Castroneves won his first pole of the season last week in Nashville.

Starting alongside Castroneves will be teammate Ryan Briscoe who recorded a speed of 120.846 m.p.h.

"It was a great battle between Ryan and I," said Castroneves. "This morning, we were talking about what a great chance we had to start on the front row with both cars, and we did it. It was a tough battle. Team Penske did a great job, and I'm extremely happy to part of this organization."

Marco Andretti (120.586 m.p.h.) and Justin Wilson (120.348 m.p.h.) will start in row two.

Tony Kanaan and Scott Dixon were the other two drivers running in the final of the three-segment qualifying session at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Kanaan and Dixon will start fifth and sixth, respectively.

The 12 quickest drivers, the top-six from each of the first two qualifying groups, then competed for 15 minutes to eliminate six drivers for the final segment.

The IndyCar Series makes its second appearance at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, as Dixon defends his title. Last year, Dixon won the inaugural Honda Indy 200, as he capitalized on a late-race pit strategy.

Dixon leads Castroneves by 63 points in the standings. In 11 starts this year, Dixon has four wins and nine top-five finishes. Castroneves also owns nine top-five finishes, but is winless this season.

The green flag is scheduled to drop on Sunday around 1:30 p.m. (et).
